This
Division provides design, project management and construction
management services for bikeway, streetscape, and various
street improvement projects constructed by the Bureau of Street
Services. Another major responsibility of the Division is
to secure available Federal and State grant monies that help
fund many of these projects through programs such as the MTA
Call for Projects and Caltrans' Safe Routes to Schools Program.
This Division also manages the Citywide Coordinated Street
Furniture Program and provides technical services to support
improvements and maintenance of the Bureau's asphalt plants
and maintenance facilities.

This
Division's responsibilities include clearning, cleaning, and
removing illegally dumped materials, weeds, dirt and waste
on privately and publicly owned parcels. Most of work is performed
on unimproved vacant properties, unimproved streets, unimproved
median islands, alleys, and grade separations using power
equipment and/or hand labor. This Division also manages administrative
and public relations issues associated with the Citywide Weed
Abatement Ordinance.
The
Resurfacing and Reconstructing Division is responsible for
pavement preservation of the largest street system in the
country. This is accomplished by the operation of two municipal
asphalt plants and through field crews performing cold milling
operations, repairing localized base failures, and the total
reconstruction and resurfacing of streets and alleys. The
Division also provides services to other agencies, as the
"contractor of choice", for specialized asphalt
paving projects that require on-time, on-budget delivery with
assured quality control.
This
Division is responsible for contruction of Design/Build projects
within the Public Rights-of-Way, including repairing 'funded
sidewalks', guard rails, bridges as well as maintaining MTA's
ramps, bus stop landings and bus pads. This Division is also
responsible for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Curb Ramp Program.
This
Division's main functions are cleaning and maintaining public
thoroughfares and alleys. The cleaning functions include
the motor sweeping of streets, cleanup of pedestrian subway
tunnels, and public stairways, and maintaining 3,000 trash
receptacles. Maintenance functions include pothole repairs,
repaving of minor street defects, slurry seal, and emergency
repairs to sidewalks.
This
Division's responsibilities include the care and preservation
of trees and landscaped areas within the public street right-of-way.
Division programs include pruning, planting, dead and/or damaged
tree removal, and green waste recycling. The Division also
investigates all reports related to trees and other vegetation
growing on or in the public right-of-way and is responsible
for the preservation of the Coast Live Oak trees.
This
Division's primary responsibility is to enforce provisions
contained in the California Streets and Highways Code, Los
Angeles Municipal Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated
by the Board of Public Works related to the use and misuse
of public streets.
