The Personal City Services Program was launched by the Bureau of Street Services (BSS) in 2005. It gives community residents and groups the chance to improve and beautify their own neighborhoods, improving the quality of life for all.
The program applies to resident or any group, such as a Business Improvement District or Neighborhood Council. It allows them to use their own funds to pay for the overtime costs for City crews to perform a variety of services. The services available include:
- Small Asphalt Repairs
Provides a two-person small asphalt repair truck and necessary materials to perform pothole repair, eroded flow-line repair, skin patching of depressed areas, interim sidewalk repairs and other types of small asphalt repairs.
Unit Cost (Overtime): 8 hours = $1,098
- Spot Cleaning
- Heavy Illegal Dumping Clean up
- Machine Street Sweeping
- Illegal Sign Removal
- Tree Trimming
- Sidewalk Grinding
This program has approved so popular that there is currently a waiting list because the demand has exceeded expectations. That program's success shows that City residents are willing to contribute some of the costs of having specific improvements and beautification of public spaces done more quickly. It also shows that residents are interested in investing to expand and enhance communty facilities and programs.
For additional services such as sidewalk replacement, curb and gutter repair, access ramp construction, and other work requiring multi-phased construction, please contact the Bureau of Street Services at (213) 847-2933 for an estimate at no cost to the requestor.
