Located in the extreme northwestern corner of the San Fernando Valley, the City of Chatsworth retains much of its rural feel. Once the home of several large ranches, the majority of the town is now suburban but horse trails still meander throughout much of the community.
On Lassen Street west of Topanga, a remnant of an old ranch road bordered by large, old, and majestic Olive trees still remains. Many of these large multiple-trunk evergreen trees reach forty feet and their canopies cover even more ground. These trees were planted sometime in the early 1900's and have thrived in our Mediterranean climate that is nearly identical to the Mediterranean Sea where they are native.
Traveling down this shady lane one almost finds themselves sent back to a different time when the pace was slower and you would shared the road with horses and buggies. These trees were placed on the Cultural Heritage Monument listing in 1967.
