SPECIES CHARACTERISTICS:
Evergreen, broadleaf tree. Fast growth rate, 25 - 45' in height, equal to greater spread. Round to oval shape.
FOLIAGE:
Pinnately leaf, pinnate venation, alternate arrangement. Elliptic to oblong shape. Entire margins, courageous surface texture. 1 1/2 - 2 1/2" long leaflets, 1/2 - 1" wide on 6 - 1" long pinnae. Deep glossy green in color.
FLOWER:
Perfect, creamy white, 1/4" in size. Late Summer - early Winter.
FRUIT:
Dry, drupe-like, green to red when mature. 1/4" round.
Late Fall - early Winter..
STEM/TRUNK:
May be multi-stemmed or branching near the ground.
BARK:
Dark brown, more deeply fissured than Schinus molle.
EXPOSURE:
Full sun.
Sunset zones: 13, 14 (Sheltered) 15 - 17, 19 - 24.
SOIL:
Any, well drained.
WATER:
Supplemental water. .
PESTS/DISEASES:
Verticillium wilt.
PRUNING:
To shape.
PROPAGATION:
Seed.
USES:
Accent, background, right of way, screen, shade, and specimen.
