Origin: Canary Islands

SPECIES CHARACTERISTICS:
Evergreen, palm tree. Moderate growth rate, 60' in height, 30 - 50' spread. Arching feather fronds.
FOLIAGE:
Pinnate leaf, whorled arrangement. Lower leaflet are strong, stiff, sharp spines. 10 - 20' long, deep green in color.
FLOWER:

Dioecious.
FRUIT:

Succulent, indehiscent, drupe. Copper-orange in color.
1" long 3/4" wide. Fruit throughout the year.
STEM/TRUNK:
Single, wide heavy trunk with characteristic leaf scars on the trunk. dark brown.
EXPOSURE:
Full sun, wind, heat, aridity and cold; Hardiness: Sunset zones: 9, 12 - 24.
WATER:
Low water needs.
PRUNING:
To remove dead and lower fronds.

PESTS / DISEASE:
Phytophera, pythium, fusarium blight.
PROPAGATION:
Seed.
USES:
Accent, border , foliage, right of way, shade, seasonal color, specimen, tropical.
