OUR IN-HOUSE TECHNICAL SUPPORT

The Technical Support Section provides support for the division's construction activities. This includes maintaining a database on the condition of concrete sidewalk and gutter throughout the City. The section has an engineer and construction experts on staff to investigate various street related problems including drainage issue, and to recommend and prepare mitigation plans. Identifying the necessary and correct type of street improvement is a tasked responsibility that is generally explained as follows: A-permits, where the property owner improves curb, gutter, driveway or sidewalk with City Standard Plans; B-permits, where property owner(s) improve the public right-of-way by hiring engineers and contractors to comply with conditions attached to a building improvement project; and Assessment Projects, in which property owner(s) pay a share of the improvement over a period of time, with design created by City personnel and construction by a contractor selected through the City's bid and award process. This section also provides detailed cost estimates for concrete and street improvement work performed by the Special Projects Division's construction forces.
