CONCRETE REPAIR

CURBS AND GUTTERS

(West Nile Virus Mitigation Program)

Currently, the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Street Services is not funded to make concrete repairs to damaged curbs and gutters.

One exception has been the inception of the West Nile Virus Mitigation Program beginning in fiscal year 2006-2007. This program has established a database of targeted locations in the fifteen Council Districts to repair concrete where off-grade gutters create standing water, a potential breeding site for mosquitoes.

It is the responsibility of property owner to make repairs on damaged curbs by obtaining a permit from the Bureau of Engineering and hiring a contractor to do the work unless the broken curbs were due to City owned tree roots. Broken gutters are often repaired with asphalt to abate hazard.

The City has miles of streets that lack concrete gutters, and thus standing water in flowline can become a potential problem. Until resources become available to construct a concrete gutter with an established flowline, we ask you to be proactive in dealing with the source of continuous water flow. To curtail any health hazards stemming from standing water problem, we will work together to find a drainage solution. Please call our Service Request line at 3-1-1 or 1 (800) 966 - CITY and ask for the storm water hotline to report your concern.
